Before you start
- Make sure the light is charged — plug it in, and you should see a red or amber LED.
- Make sure your phone is running iOS 15 or later, or Android 9 or later.
- Make sure the See.Sense app is updated to the latest version.
Quick checks (30 seconds)
- Bluetooth is switched on in your phone settings.
- Location / GPS is switched on in your phone settings. (Android requires this to scan for Bluetooth — see note below.)
- Give the light a firm shake. ICON, ICON2 and ICON3 go to sleep after about three minutes to save battery and stop advertising over Bluetooth. A shake wakes them.
- Close the See.Sense app completely, reopen it, and scan again.
- Keep the phone within arm's length of the light for the first pairing. Reported Bluetooth range is up to 100 m, but the first handshake is most reliable at close range.
Why does the app need location permission just to find my light?
On Android, the operating system treats Bluetooth scanning as a location-sensitive action — because nearby Bluetooth signals can reveal where you are. The app therefore needs location permission before it can scan for or connect to the light, even if you don't plan to record rides. This is an Android requirement, not a See.Sense one.
(See also: Why the See.Sense app asks for 'Always' location permission — the short answer is that we do not track you all the time.)
On iPhone, please allow the Bluetooth permission when the app first asks.
Still can't connect?
- Android: check whether the app is restricted by Battery Saver or background limits. See our Samsung / Xiaomi / OnePlus / Pixel fix-it guide.
- iPhone: check Background App Refresh is on for See.Sense — Settings → General → Background App Refresh. Also switch off Low Power Mode for a test, since it disables Background App Refresh silently.
- If the light flashes when you tap Flash inside the app but the main screen says "not found," you are connected — close the app and reopen it, and the main screen should catch up.
- If nothing works, use the in-app Report button (Settings → Report an issue). Include your phone model and OS version and we'll look at your setup directly.
